Catering to a specific set of eaters is As Quoted, a new cafe that is now open in Presidio Heights with food for literally anyone — whether you’re dairy-, gluten-, nut- or soy-free (or any combination thereof), As Quoted has you covered. Sisters Kara and Andie Yamagami teamed up to open a restaurant that reflected their styles, with Andie in the kitchen and Kara designing and running the front of house. Andie went to nutrition and culinary school — as well as being nut-, dairy-, gluten- and soy-free herself — and has privately cooked for pregnant women and cancer patients, so she’s applying her belief of food as medicine to the restaurant.

On the menu (in full below) is a mix of all-organic pastries, salads, open-faced sandwiches (on housemade gluten-free bread, naturally), smoothies and bone broth-based soups. Local beer (some gluten-free), cider and wine are soon to come, and Andytown Coffee Roasters, which is based in the Outer Sunset, is supplying the beans for espressos and drip coffee. "We’re trying to have everything that we offer as local as possible, like Andytown, which is a transparently-sourced roaster," Kara told Eater. "We also use Full Belly Farm, which is outside of Davis, and Marin Sun Farms meat. Eventually we’ll have a board of all the farms that we source from."

One exciting — albeit incidental — facet of the cafe is its all-female staff. "We weren’t trying to do it this way, but it’s so much fun and just different. Our whole team is super positive," Andie said. Which is reflective of the bright and airy interior that Kara designed, even making all the furniture for the shop herself. For now, As Quoted is in soft opening, so some menu items, like the baby food, are not available, but will ramp up in the coming weeks. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, with plans to open on Sundays soon.
